About the Winery
Grove Street Winery is focused on super-premium, award-winning,
limited production Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet
Sauvignon. Their winery was established in 1988 in the historic
Sonoma County town of Healdsburg, California. They have been producing
highly acclaimed wines from the heart of this world-renowned region
ever since.
Grove Street Winery was purchased by Peter T. Paul in 1999 with
a vision to offer the best wines from Sonoma County for less than
twenty dollars a bottle. By using the finest grapes available from
growing appellations surrounding Healdsburg, Grove Street has garnered
accolades and gold medals from some of the nation's most prestigious
wine competitions.
Today, Grove Street remains one of the few 100% family-owned wineries
in California with a streamlined product line focused on production
of premium wines from Sonoma County. They also produce a few cases
of super premium wines from Napa under the Peter Paul label. Grove
Street and Peter Paul are often seen supporting charitable events
and causes in many areas of the United States. We are particularly
supportive of Northern California charities, and are pleased to
be a part of so many diverse communities.
The following Grove Street and Peter Paul wines are available in
Connecticut:
2005 Lake County Sauvignon Blanc
Our Sauvignon Blanc was grown in Lake County. The vineyard is south
and slightly west of Kelseyville, facing the mostly western slope
of Mt. Konocti. This vineyard is extensive and the vines were grown
at many different elevations. The lower areas of the vineyard have
soil types that are lean, slightly rocky basaltic with slight amounts
of volcanic and clay characteristics.
The 2005 growing season was generally cool which allowed the grapes
to hang longer on the vines without causing the sugar levels to
rise excessively. Thus allowing the fruit to fully mature without
the loss of most of the acids. The grapes were harvested in the
middle of September, with sugar levels at 23.9 brix.
The wine was tank fermented in stainless steel and not allowed
to go through malolactic fermentation. Cold fermentation took place
over 30 days to preserve the fruit characteristics.
Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Alcohol: 14.2%
2005 Mendocino County Chardonnay
The bulk of the Chardonnay fruit came from the Sparrowhawk Vineyard
in the Potter Valley region of Mendocino County. The vineyard is
next to a major tributary that feeds Lake Mendocino resulting in
gravelly clay loam soils.
The 2005 growing season was generally cool which allowed the grapes
to hang longer on the vines without causing the sugar levels to
rise too high. This allowed the fruit to fully mature without the
loss of most of the acids. The grapes were harvested in the middle
of October, the latest this vineyard had been harvested in over
ten years.
Approximately 70% of the juice was tank fermented without malolactic
acid. Another 25% was fermented without malolactic acid in oval
wood fermenters and 5% was fermented in equal amounts of American
and Russian oak barrels. An Australian cooper, Southern Cross, produced
the American oak barrels and a French Cooper produced the Russian
oak barrels. Russian Oak is the same species as French Oak. The
barrel-fermented wine went through malolactic fermentation and was
stirred weekly on the lees.
Blend: 100% Chardonnay
Alcohol: 13.7%

Grove Street Napa Meritage
This is a non-vinatge full bodied wine that has balance, style and
charm. Our Meritage is a classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon,
Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec. Most of these grapes were sourced
from Beckstoffer and Jaeger vineyards in the Napa Valley.
Blend: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 1% Cabnernet
Franc
Alcohol: 14.5%
2004 Sonoma County Merlot
This 2004 Sonoma County Merlot is intense and jammy with a blackberry,
cassis, and tobacco nose. The taste mirrors the aroma with lush
berries and smooth tannins. It has a luscious, long finish with
a hint of oak.
Blend: 87% Merlot & 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2%Syrah, 1%Carignane
Alcohol: 14.5%
2004 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
This broad-shouldered, deftly balanced Cabernet Sauvignon was produced
from fruit grown in the plush appellations of Sonoma County. Here,
well-drained, loose soil allows for the clear flavor development
of the fruit. This wine has a pleasant surge of ripe currant and
cherry flavors that push through. Finishes with supple tannins and
a touch of anise and sage. A lush balance of rich fruit, plenty
of tannin and fine acidity.
Blend:98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Merlot, 1% Malbec
Alcohol:14.9%.
Grove Street Trias
Our Grove Street Trias has a long history. Originally a separate
brand, we now bottle this delicious blend under the Grove Street
label. The Trias is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec aged
mostly in American oak. The wine has aromas of berries, cassis,
and vanilla coming together on the palate with a great finish.
2001 Peter Paul Napa Valley Merlot Limited
Quantity
The Peter Paul Napa Valley merlot fruit was harvested from the Jaeger
Vineyard within the Oak Knoll district, immediately south of the
Stags Leap district. The soils are alluvial gravelly clay loam with
good drainage and the climate is influenced by its proximity to
San Pablo Bay. The slightly cooler conditions result in slower maturing
fruit and retention of optimal fruit chemistry.
The grapes came from selected mature vines of 30 - 35 years, with
very low yields. Prominent aromas and flavors of cherry, boysenberry
and blackberry together with restrained oak characteristics of vanilla
and spice. The body shows a delightful balance of fruit and richness
in the mouth, with a firm clean finish. The wine drinks well now
and will lay down nicely. Barrel lots were sampled for optimal flavor
and balance, and chosen barrels were blended with 8% Rutherford
Bench cabernet and a trace of cabernet franc.
